Located
on Asese Bay, just two and a half miles of paved road away from
Granada, Marina Cocibolca offers easy access to the natural beauties
of Nicaragua’s Great Lake. The famous Isletas (360 small
islands), one of the Lake’s main attractions, are across
from the Marina and just a few minutes away. Nearby, to the South,
is Zapatera Island, with its pre-Columbian archeological sites
and its rainbow bass fishing grounds.
Next
to the Marina, and at the foot of Mombacho’s Volcano, there
are private ecological reserves, some with hot springs and wetlands,
containing primary forests and a biological diversity difficult
to imagine in an area only 30 miles from Managua’s International
Airport. The perfect cone of Concepcion Volcano,
located
on Ometepe Island, which is two hours away by boat, can be viewed
from the Marina. San Carlos and the San Juan River can be reached
in a few hours using a catamaran that departs the Marina and crosses
the Lake at least once a week. The catamaran also offers access
to visitors who, from Costa Rica, wish to enter Nicaragua using
the Los Chiles-San Carlos route.
Marina
Cocibolca’s facilities include a first rate restaurant as
well as services related to nautical and tourism activities. Its
Information Center has brochures and other literature about the
area’s attractions, as well as detailed information on possible
guided tours. The Marina also has a convenience store and folk
art shops.
